Backend Software Engineer

We're looking for a Backend Software Engineer to build and evolve the software backbone of our manufacturing automation systems. You'll develop services that orchestrate real-world robotics, handle production workflows, and power automation solutions deployed in cutting-edge manufacturing environments for industry leaders.

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and physical automation - your code will directly control robotic systems, manage factory operations, and enable seamless integration between digital logic and mechanical execution.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve backend services for manufacturing execution and automation workflows

• Develop and maintain Python services and APIs (FastAPI, event-driven microservices)

• Design and implement REST and service-to-service communication patterns (including real-time/event pipelines)

• Work with message brokers and asynchronous processing in production environments

• Build integrations around core data platforms (MongoDB, Redis) and industrial data flows

• Collaborate with frontend, robotics, and controls engineers to deliver end-to-end functionality

• Improve service reliability, observability, and performance under real factory constraints

• Contribute to API design, backend architecture, and engineering best practices

Requirements and Qualifications

Required:

• 1+ years of backend development experience (or strong internship/project experience)

• Good Python fundamentals and clean coding practices

• Experience building APIs with frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django

• Understanding of asynchronous programming, background jobs, and event-driven systems

• Familiarity with databases (preferably MongoDB or other NoSQL/SQL systems)

• Basic understanding of caching and state management with tools like Redis

• Familiarity with Docker and containerized development workflows

• Understanding of Git-based workflows and collaborative development practices

• Strong problem-solving mindset, ownership, and attention to detail

• Good communication skills and ability to work in a fast-moving engineering team

Nice to Have:

• Experience with MQTT, gRPC, or other message-based communication protocols

• Familiarity with microservice architecture and distributed systems fundamentals

• Experience with testing backend services (unit/integration) and CI workflows

• Exposure to industrial automation, robotics, or hardware-integrated software systems

• Basic DevOps knowledge (service deployment, monitoring, runtime troubleshooting)
