Senior Manager – CNC Programming (CAM)

Job Overview

We're looking for a Senior Manager – CNC Programming with expert-level command of CAM. This is not a regular CNC programming role. You will program and machine the parts our company needs. You will also be one of the key people supporting and developing our machining automation technologies.

At DHR Engineering, we are deeply committed to the automation of milling and turning. Our goal is machine tools that load themselves, run unattended, adapt to the process and report their own condition. Many of the technologies we are building are not currently available on the market. You will work with a premium, state-of-the-art machine park, including high-end mill-turn centres and simultaneous 5-axis machining centres from leading European and Japanese manufacturers.

Your machining work and your development work will feed into each other. The parts you run in our workshop become the testing ground for the automation we build. We'll give you context, resources and a strong multidisciplinary team, but the technical direction, the decisions and the results are yours.

Responsibilities

• Be one of the key people behind machining automation technologies that no one else currently offers, including robotic machine tending, lights-out operation and adaptive machining

• Push premium 5-axis and mill-turn equipment to its full potential on technically demanding parts

• Take ideas from concept to reality: design experiments, run trials at the machine and turn the results into working technology

• Go beyond standard CAM with custom macros, scripting and controller-level integration

• Work side by side with our robotics, automation and software teams to build fully automated machining systems

• Own CNC programming for our in-house needs, from prototypes to parts for the machines we build

• Set the technical standard for machining across the company and mentor the people around you

Requirements and Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in CNC programming, ideally in prototyping, precision machining or technically demanding environments

• Expert-level proficiency in at least one major CAM system, such as Mastercam, hyperMILL, Siemens NX, ESPRIT or an equivalent

• Strong experience with simultaneous 5-axis machining and turning centres with live tooling and Y-axis capability

• In-depth knowledge of G-code and CNC controllers such as Siemens, Heidenhain, Mitsubishi or Fanuc, beyond standard programming. Experience with DMG MORI CELOS is a plus

• Experience creating or editing post-processors

• Strong fundamentals in cutting mechanics, tooling, workholding and machining of a wide range of materials

• An experimental, analytical mindset and the ability to work independently on open-ended problems

• Sharp troubleshooting instincts. You are as comfortable at the machine as you are at the CAM station

• A technical degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechatronics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

• Good written and spoken English

• A genuine passion for machining and a strong interest in pushing it further

Nice to Have

• Experience with robotic machine tending or automated machining cells

• Experience with parametric programming and macros (e.g. Fanuc Macro B)

• CAM automation through APIs or scripting

• Experience with in-process probing, tool measurement and closed-loop machining

• Knowledge of machine monitoring and controller interfaces (e.g, OPC UA, MTConnect)

• Programming experience in Python, C# or another general-purpose language

• Previous experience in an R&D or technology development role
